I have dubbed Jonathan Harris one of my all-time heroes. He is an artist, programmer, traveler, and introvert. What do you know… me too!
His mission to bring more depth into the digital age was something I relate to and aspire to incorporate in my own future projects. Listening to his stories during his talk at CCA reminds me that emotions and feelings are just as powerful as logic and facts, if not more.
I learned from him that it’s okay to retreat into a cabin in the woods for months in order to work on a project like Cowbird. I learned that technology should extend humanity, not override it. I learned that stories are powerful media to illustrate a lesson learned.
What a great talk.
Say hello to mechanically separated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken is made from—things like chicken nuggets and patties. Also, the processed frozen chicken in the stores is made from it.
Basically, the entire chicken is smashed and pressed through a sieve—bones, eyes, guts, and all. it comes out looking like this.
There’s more: because it’s crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color.
But, hey, at least it tastes good, right?
High five, America!
Update: Below follow some of my responses to all the controversy this post has created. Christ, some of you people act as if I told you there wasn’t a Santa Claus.
First time getting henna on my hand!
